easy chapman stick melody for two-handed tapping

Easy Touch-Style Melody is the third book of our revolultionary new learning method called the Easy Touch-Style Method.

Book One showed a simple set of building-blocks that enabled you to play chords in bass strings, or in melody strings, or with both hands at the same time.

Book Two developed your basslines.

And now, Book Three shows how to play melody.

IT’S A WHOLE NEW WAY TO PLAY!
By touching guitar strings with the fingers of both hands, you can play piano-like music. For example, playing a left-hand bassline or chords, and simultaneous melody or chords.

BOOK THREE — PLAYING MELODY
In Book One (Easy Touch-Style Bassics) we presented a new method of play, both simpler and more powerful than other methods from the past. We learned the easy way to train both hands — at the same time — to play chords, and we introduced “Rhythm Bass,” which means playing basslines and simultaneous rhythmic chords.

The first basic key to rapid learning in this new method was shown to be that each hand can operate in exactly the same manner to produce exactly the same notes.

The breakthrough given in this new method book is that, with the simple approach spelled out in that book, you can use each hand in exactly the same manner to produce exactly the same notes. Once you’ve learned to play a scale (or a chord) with each hand, you can then practice with both hands simultaneously. And this “doubling up” during your learning time almost halves the time required to learn to actually play some music. Or, put another way, you learn twice as fast. Half as much time to learn to play twice as fast? That’s a good thing.

Then, in Book Two (Easy Touch-Style Rhythm) we revealed powerful bassline-plus-rhythm-chords techniques that can be quickly learned and easily done. We showed how easy it is to read rhythm in standard music notation, and how to use simple rhythms (some on your bass notes and some on your chord notes) to create complex and satisfying bass plus rhythm for any song.

We showed you how to play Walking Bass using only four simple rules. This book simply expanded on what you’d already learned to make bass-playing easy.

SO LETS PLAY SOME MELODIES!
Since you know the basics and the bass, it’s time to play melodies. We’ve made this as easy as can be.

Some musicians feel timid about learning to read, because it can seem like a big deal. And, done wrong, it can be less than perfectly clear.

But we’ve made it simple and easy. Starting with the notes you already know (from Book One), you’ll learn string by string, how to read. Three notes on this string, and some practice. Then three notes on the next string. Some practice. Three notes on the next string, and then three notes on one more string.

And now you can actually read and play simple songs. It’s easy when you break it down like this. And because you learned about reading the rhythm in Book Two, you only have to think about one thing. What note goes on what string.

That’s what we’ve done, and that’s what you can do.

Then we show you some songs — real songs, not Farmer in the Dell stuff — and, wonderful news! You can now play these songs.

No longer does a musician need to be illiterate in music, because for the first time, there’s an easy method for learning to read and play.

EASY, STEP-BY-STEP GRADIENT
The second basic key to rapid learning is to find the most useful building blocks, and to have each step build upon the last step in a clear step-by-step manner. This method began in Book One, and continued through Book Two.

You may not have been aware of it, but we arranged (in Book One and Book Two) to show you what you need to know ahead of time, so when you get to Book Three, you will be surprised how simple and clear it is, because you’ve already learned most of what you need to know!

For this reason, Book Three is best studied *after* Book One and Two.

HEAR EXAMPLE SONGS
To hear songs played with the “touch-style” technique given in the Easy Touch-Style Melody method book, click on the recordings listed below. In differing styles, these songs were played on the Mobius Megatar instruments which we manufacture, using the two-handed touch-style method. When you hear a “bass” and “guitar”, or a “guitar duet” it’s just one musician playing both parts simultaneously! And the surprising thing is … it’s actually easier to learn than piano or guitar!

PRESENTED IN EASY-TO-LEARN “BASS-BOTTOM” TUNING
This method assumes that you are using a specialty tapping instrument. (The techniques can be adapted to other kinds of bass or guitar, but is easiest on specialty instruments.)

As we will show, of all the tunings favored by touch-style musicians around the world, the tuning known as the BassBottom tuning appears to be the simplest and most powerful. In the bass region, strings are tuned the same as a normal 6-string bass, from Low-B up in fourths. In the melody region, strings are tuned in straight fourths, and slightly lower than normal 6-string guitar (for best tone). The dual straight-fourths tuning means simplified scale and chord-form layout, providing faster learning through simplicity.

This simple method permits you to place your left hand on bass strings, and your right hand on melody strings (much like a piano player does), and you can train your hands simultaneously on scales or chord forms, to make your learning very fast.

However, if you are using some other tuning, for example, the “Inverted Fifths” bass strings favored by Chapman Stick players, or if you’re playing on an 8-string bass, a set of fretboard maps is provided in the appendix to make any notes you need, but Remember — The melody strings in these other tunings are in the same fourths, and it’s just as simple to learn reading the melody strings on a Chapman Stick as on a Mobius Megatar. There is no difference in learning to read melody on melody strings. It’s easy either way.
